Abstract
In this paper we discuss some simple 4-part arranging techniques, particularly suitable for jazz musicians. By exploiting the Diatonic Parallelism, we provide an explicit writing of the 4-part harmonization of the Ionian, Dorian and Mixolydian scales (or modes). In order to harmonize the so-called approach notes, we herein exclusively resort to the Chromatic Parallelism. Finally, by exploiting the concept of tonicization, we carry out the 4-part harmonization of the Major, Melodic Minor and Dominant Be-Bop scales.
